Ensuring Accessibility at Buchanan Oasis Farmstead
Today, we had the honor of hosting our first group visit from Precise Home Healthcare. It was a heartwarming experience as five clients, including three war veterans, along with their caregivers, enjoyed a peaceful day at the farm. Watching these gentlemen laugh and reminisce about their childhoods in the South while sitting on a bench observing the chickens and goats was pure magic.
However, I realized a challenge during the tour. All the clients used walkers or wheelchairs, and our farm’s uneven terrain made it difficult for them to explore beyond certain areas. Though we took it slow and made the best of the situation, I couldn't help but wish we had a better way to give them the full farm experience.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t visit our market garden or the serene forest area due to the terrain. That’s why I’ve made it my priority to raise funds to purchase a Golf Cart or UTV that will allow visitors with mobility challenges to comfortably tour the entire farm.
A golf cart will make Buchanan Oasis Farmstead more inclusive by providing transportation across uneven areas and allowing all visitors to enjoy the beauty of the farm fully, regardless of physical limitations. This addition will not only enhance their experience but also ensure that no one misses out on the joy our farm has to offer.
We’ve already had an overwhelming amount of support and inquiries from our community, and I’m excited to see how we can come together to make this dream a reality. The gentlemen from Precise plan to visit again next season, and I want to be ready to provide them—and all future guests—the best possible experience.
